This document aims to assist beginners in the first-time programming of ESP8266-EVB, ESP8266-EVB-BAT, or ESP8266-EVB-BAT-BOX, via Arduino IDE. Experienced ESP8266 users would probably find this document redundant. The document structure is as follows: • All the required hardware and software for a basic setup is listed in “CHAPTER 2. The definitive guide to programming on the ESP8266 and ESP32 processors. The definitive guide to programming on the ESP8266 and ESP32 processors. I've been working in the software business for over 30 years but until recently, hadn't been playing directly with Micro Processors. This book is my collated and polished version of those.
To your SSID & Password! Try to compile it (no need to upload yet!) Compilation Problems?
Please note: as of November 27, 2016 the ESP8266 release core v2.3.0 did not have the right lwip code so there were some compilation issues. If you get a complaint about udpsetmulticastttl not being defined, you'll need to uninstall the ESP8266 board support, then manually install the most recent core from by following the instructions at Essentialy you'll need to git clone into your Arduino sketchbook folder under hardware/esp8266com/esp8266 and then in a terminal shell in hardware/esp8266com/esp8266/tools run python get.py Once that's done, go back and test out your ESP8266 to make sure you can compile/upload code to it. If you get no response, try updating the ESP firmware to the one attached. Use a 3.3v FTDI board like this one - Hookup the ESP to the FTDI - Get the ESP8266Flasher - Get the 1.1.1.1 Firmware Flash the ESP 2. If you receive partial response from the ESP8266 when using software serial, go to: C: Program Files (x86) Arduino hardware arduino avr libraries SoftwareSerial src SoftwareSerial.h Change line 42: #define SSMAXRXBUFF 64 // RX buffer size To: #define SSMAXRXBUFF 256 // RX buffer size. This will enlarge the software serial buffer.
Sometimes setting the baudrate on initialization fails, try resetting the Arduino, it should work fine. If you have any issues, let us know:).
